You are advised to make the most of the many facilities available in the School, designed to assist you with your studies. All Departments have a library and/or workrooms, which offer specialist books and other material. The Smythe Library is also an excellent venue for research and study; it contains thousands of books, CD-ROM and Internet facilities, all of which provide for access of information. All Sixth Formers have a number of study periods in each cycle, which offer opportunities for academic work. You might choose to read one or more of the daily broadsheet newspapers on a regular basis; these are readily available in the Smythe Library, and are particularly valuable for extending your horizons, keeping in touch with current issues, and preparing for university interviews. All Departments are open during Pursuits Periods, when at least one member of staff will be on hand to give assistance on academic work. These sessions represent an excellent opportunity to go through an essay or numerical problem, to do some research, to discuss a project, or to have a general chat with a teacher about academic progress or ambitions. A wide range of lectures and departmental societies is also on offer, and regular attendance is highly recommended, not least because interest in a subject is extended through exposure to visiting speakers.
