Academic success in the Sixth Form is not simply measured in terms of marks and grades; nor is it about the number of sides you have written in answering a Prep, nor even about the number of hours that you devote to academic study each week. Your enthusiasm counts for a great deal, and this goes hand in hand with your ability to work effectively. Planning is critical, and so also is the acquisition of a number of study skills and techniques. Some of these might be unfamiliar to you, and individual Departments and teachers will introduce them in the first term of the Lower Sixth. By the Michaelmas half term, you should have noticed a significant change in your approach to academic work. We will help you to learn how to organise your work schedules and your files, how to make notes in and out of the classroom, how to go about research for essays, coursework and projects, and how to revise in preparation for tests and examinations. The faster you develop good study habits, the more you will enjoy your courses and the higher your final AS and A Level grades are likely to be.
