Admissions > Laptop Computers at Tonbridge
There is no requirement for boys at Tonbridge to possess their own laptops. In particular, all boarders are provided with a "thin client" link into the school network. This is essentially a dumb terminal which allows boys access to the internet and to school resources. However, thin clients are fairly limited when compared to a connected laptop, and increasingly boarders - and some day boys - are using their own computers. The ICT Services department does not at present have the resources to make a wide range of makes and models network-ready, and so the school has policy that only certain models will be allowed - information can be found here.
It is hoped that later this year we will have developed network management and security to the point that any make of laptop will be able to connect. Further information on this will be posted later.
