Polar Bear are part of the revival in British jazz that has seen young people identify with jazz once again. Their emphasis on playful spontaneity has won the group a diverse audience with exuberant music that opens out into moments of freewheeling abstraction.
Their second album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2005, Bandleader Sebastian Rochford won the award for Rising Star at BBC Jazz Awards 2005, the band played at the Mighty Boosh Festival in 2008 and was invited, by Portishead, to play at ATP 2007.
This is not nu-jazz, acid jazz, Jamie jazz, Parkey jazz, Brit jazz, beardo jazz, post-jazz, or twee jazz. It's dream jazz.
