Pastoral care is at the centre of all that we do in schools. Getting it right has enormous benefits in terms of student and staff performance, parental engagement and the creation of a successful and purposeful school community. However, ‘getting it right’ means different things to different people in different contexts. This conference hopes to draw out some of the themes and issues common to all schools and suggest strategies that can be applied to all contexts.
Anti-Bullying/Cyber Bullying: In this session we shall look at how Tonbridge carries out its Anti-bullying policy, how the pupils engage with the practices in place and how the community buys into the ethos of ‘no tolerance’. We will also explore some of the issues surrounding cyber bullying.
Issues of Adolescence: Exploring some of the issues facing maturing teenagers who may struggle with the oscillation between childhood and adulthood, paying particular attention to developmental issues and the affect these may have on the teenage maturational process. There will be ample opportunity for questions and open discussion around the subject.
Body Image: A discussion covering: the changing ideals of body image; gym use; supplement use and anorexia to "bigorexia".
Models of Management: Making it work? What are the common features of successful pastoral systems? How transferable are these across different contexts and how do they promote positive outcomes for pupils?
The sessions will involve many chances for questions and answers, not only to the speakers but to pupils also, as well as informal networking, across a wide range of issues as well as a panel discussion. If there are particular questions you would like covered under the above areas, please email your question with your registration form.
