Tonbridge Community > Public Benefit > Partnership with the Marsh Academy
Tonbridge School has been working in partnership with The Marsh Academy since June 2006.
The Marsh Academy is in the heart of the Romney Marshes and is the only school in the area. It aims to be a vibrant school which will help stimulate the area in which it is situated.
Tim Haynes, Headmaster of Tonbridge, is a governor of the school and Chair of the Governors Education Committee. He aims to support the school principal, Tracey Luke, and offer guidance where required. Annabel Bugge, a governor of Tonbridge, is also a governor of the Marsh Academy.
Whilst the two schools may be very different places they share the same goal, which is to develop their pupils to the best of their potential. The aim of the partnership is, through observation and discussion, to share good practice and ideas for teaching and school management. We have set up a series of exchanges between several departments within each school. It is hoped that these exchanges will lead to greater working together in the future across a broader range of subject areas. Tonbridge has also shared the basis of its pastoral care provision with The Marsh Academy and both sides are keen to develop this further. In the coming year we hope to bring to fruition a range of joint music projects which have already been planned, as well as deepening the academic cross-fertilisation we have already initiated.
Stephen Wainde is the Tonbridge Master responsible for developing ongoing relationships with staff from the Marsh Academy.
The engagement of Tonbridge School is central and vital to the success of the academy, and it represents an outstanding act of public service.
