Holiday Courses - Security
Holiday Courses > Security
- We are always conscious of the need to maintain and, where possible, improve the levels of supervision of children in our care and have reviewed the security arrangements for our Holiday Courses to ensure that any danger to our charges is at the lowest possible level. Tonbridge School is an open campus, and it is not possible to guarantee absolutely that no unauthorised persons obtain access to the grounds or the premises of the School. Furthermore, we do not wish to spoil the holiday atmosphere of the courses by introducing unnecessarily strict limitations on the children.
- The key therefore is to see that the children are escorted into supervised areas and handed over to our staff, all of whom have their identity clearly visible and will have been cleared through Criminal Records Disclosure procedures. Apart from Registration on Day 1 (see page 4), please escort them personally to the Orchard Centre (for the under 6s see Paragraph 4 below).
- On collection, please do not ask children to wait for you anywhere other than at the Orchard Café - please collect them in person and escort them back to your car or off site. This will enable us to ensure that no one wanders off without adult supervision.
- For children under 6 years attending Multi Skills or Gymnastics, parents will be shown where the course will actually take place immediately following Registration on Day 1 (please allow a little extra time for this). Thereafter delivery and collection will take place at that specific venue.
- For children who are staying to lunch and an afternoon course, we will provide supervision at the Orchard Café. However, for children under 6 the crowded environment can be daunting. For these we ask that a parent or authorised adult returns to have lunch with them before handing them over to their afternoon class.
- We provide ample staff to supervise early arrivals and late pick-ups, and in addition we keep a list of all children arriving early and/or leaving late - the register is kept at the Orchard Café. Please tick the appropriate box on the application form if you intend to deliver your child or children early (after 8.30, before 9.30am.), or collect them late (between 4.30 and 5.00pm). If you are only doing this on one day, let the office know in advance.
- To date we believe these safeguards have proved effective but not too irksome. We do ask for your co-operation: the aim is to provide the greatest possible safety for everyone by reducing the likelihood of any child of any age going off on his or her own, or worse, being persuaded to go off with a stranger.
- Traffic gets very busy and we ask that you do not park or wait in cars along the Avenue near the Chapel or the Café. Please park on the signed car parks (the Quad or Upper Hundred) and walk to the collection/drop-off points. Minibuses will be manoeuvring in this area and there may very well be hundreds of pedestrians of various ages on the move, often on the road, at the same time. The greatest of all the risks may be a traffic accident if the road space is allowed to become constricted.
