Novi - Taster Course

During the Summer Term those Novi who feel they might be interested in joining the CCF are given the opportunity to participate in a 5 week "taster course" on Wednesday afternoons. After a briefing session on the first day they are divided into four sections and issued with their "uniform" - a bright red CCF T-shirt which they wear with track suit trousers. Because they will be expected to take part in the weekly parade they are then instructed in basic drill by senior cadets.
For the next three weeks they participate in a round robin of activities. After parade they split into their sections and spend 45 minutes with one of the three service sections discovering what that section has to offer within the CCF. The fourth group are given a general introduction to the UK's armed forces and how cadet activities fit into the overall picture. After this classroom session each section is split down further and spends the rest of the afternoon engaged in practical activities such as campcraft, ropework, initiative tests, weapons training, flight simulation and so on.
In the final week the course comes together again for an inter-section competition and then a debrief. Participants then discuss with housemasters their final choice of activitiy for the fourth form.
