Lent Term
Fives is mainly played as a competitive sport in the Lent Term when seventy boys play regularly. School matches are arranged for all age groups and there are usually three teams of four at each age group. Fives provides a great opportunity to try out a new sport at Tonbridge and caters for boys of all sporting abilities. However the ethos of the club is that all players are given a chance to improve, to play competitive games at their standard and to take part in a sport which still values sportsmanship very highly.
The School possesses seven Fives Courts which are regularly used. Three of those still retain the Winchester buttresses whilst the other four are standard Rugby Fives courts.
The strongest players go on to represent the school in the National Schools' Fives Championships. In 2010 Tonbridge won the Plate Competition in the U18 Winchester Fives Doubles (see news item) and also won the singles title at the Rossall Fives Championships.
