The Park House Award

Progress against targets

Since fundraising began in 2007, 65 PH OTs and parents have given their support to the scheme. Here is the latest fundraising position:

Park House lunch at the RAC, Pall Mall

In February a group of 35 OTs and parents gathered for a very enjoyable lunch at the RAC, Pall Mall. James Leahy (parent and PH OT ) updated guests on the Park House Foundation Award, outlining the case for support. So far the event has raised an impressive £15000 and we are extremely grateful to all those who contributed.

The scheme in summary

  • Ongoing support at Park House for talented and deserving boys who will clearly benefit from the experience.
  • Parents or guardians will be means-tested and fee remission will be up to 100%.
  • Candidates must show passion and potential. They must also be able to contribute to the life of the House (the aim of the scheme is a two-way benefit). Selection will not be based solely on entrance exam results - the interview is a crucial element of the process.
  • The school selects candidates and recommends them to the Park House Foundation Award Committee (see below) for final approval.
  • Supporters of the scheme will be acknowledged within the House.

News on candidate selection

The school has tested and interviewed some talented boys who will thrive at Park House. All of them could not benefit from a Tonbridge education without substantial financial support. We are hoping to be able to make an offer this September for our first Foundationer to start in 2010. Our ultimate aim is to support a boy in each year of the House.

It's a scheme that works

From experience we know the system works. We have already supported four Foundationers; each has grown and flourished here. In this year's GCSE exams, one of our Foundationers, Alfred Adeyoe, achieved 11 A stars (to put this in perspective, Oxbridge require a minimum of 5 A stars at GCSE). More than this, the boys we support are all happy here and contribute to the life of the school.

A Foundationer - an example

Hillside started fundraising for their Foundation Award scheme two years before Park. They have now selected their first Foundationer.

Ultimately it's about spreading the benefits beyond the individual

The life-lessons of sharing and getting on with others in a House go in deep. As a result, many Tonbridgians leave school with a strong sense of service. We believe the Foundation Awards programme fits with this ethos: the Awards emphasise the fact that all boys here are privileged, and this adds to the motivation to give something back.

Every donation counts - only £20,000 needs to be raised for our first Foundationer!

We have come this far thanks to the good number of generous Park House OT's and parents supporting this initiative. But we need further funds in order to reach our targets and help a succession of boys enjoy all that Park and Tonbridge have to offer. Your donation really will make a difference.
