The Director of Teaching and Learning is a member of the Senior Management Team and thus part of a consultative process regarding whole school policy decisions, and is responsible for the general oversight, direction and review of teaching and learning in the school. The following list is not exhaustive, but indicates the main areas of responsibility.
Aims
- To develop Tonbridge School as a centre of excellence for Professional Development via links with other schools and external organisations such as IPD
- To continue to foster a growing 'cultural awareness' of Professional Development at Tonbridge School
- To support colleagues new to the school via the induction process
- To continue to advise and help colleagues in appraisals, professional development and lesson observation
- To further awareness of teaching and learning developments and strategies, including ICT initiatives, for all teaching staff
Responsibilities
- To be responsible for all CR professional development needs
- To administer the school appraisal system
- To be responsible for the induction of all new members of the CR
- To be responsible for the monitoring of NQT and GTP requirements as appropriate for teaching staff, meeting all legal requirements
- To make biennial 'audits' of departments in liaison with HoDs, with particular focus on teaching and learning
- To manage and deploy a small team of teaching and learning mentors
- To work closely with the Director of Studies and the Director of ICT in the planning of academic and ICT policies with regard to teaching and learning in the school
- To assist in the preparation for school inspections
- To attend the following meetings: SMT, Housemasters', Heads of Department, CRG, ICT Departmental Representatives, Communication Group, as well as other relevant working parties.
