Extra-Curricular Programme
School Management > Strategic Plan 2008-2018 > Extra-Curricular Programme
A strong feature of the school must remain a vibrant and balanced extra-curricular programme encompassing sport, music, drama and many other activities which reinforce a culture of creativity, innovation and excellence, but also provide the opportunity for leadership, self-reliance and service. To this end the school must
- Ensure that all boys get the chance to participate as widely as possible in the programme.
- Encourage the gifted and talented to pursue excellence while looking after the needs of those who just wish to participate at their own level.
- Require staff to offer their time and expertise to different aspects of the programme.
- Promote activities that result in links with the local and wider community.
- Ensure that the facilities provided for the programme as far as possible meet the needs of each activity. Management of these facilities, especially the Sport and Media Centre and the E.M.Forster Theatre, must put the requirements of the school's programme first but also generate external income.
- Offer a sports programme, managed by the Director of Sport, that promotes both excellence and breadth, encourages individual skill and character. promotes teamwork and good sportsmanship and allows boys to contribute meaningfully in both inter-school and inter-house competition.
- Offer a cultural programme that reinforces and broadens what is done in the academic programme, especially with regard to music, drama, art and design, allowing participation at different levels of ability while also promoting excellence in the gifted and talented.
- Organise a programme of Wednesday Afternoon Activities which promotes a culture of challenge, leadership and service and offers boys opportunities to develop skills which will enhance their lives.
- Encourage boys to initiate and run societies.
- Promote the student voice agenda by encouraging boys to play their part in leading and managing all aspects of the extra-curricular programme.
- Develop an effective outdoor education programme.
