Tonbridge won the toss and chose to bowl on a good Head wicket. This was the most attacking option given the conditions of the day which were cloudy with rain always threatening. The side was unchanged apart from one new cap Ed Buggé replacing Ross McDonald.
The opening bowlers Howick and Hammond quickly settled into an excellent line and length and were rewarded by taking five early wickets (3 for Howick and 2 for Hammond). Haileybury's sixth wicket partnership caused a few problems as they played positively, however the bowling partnership of Botting and Howeson managed to break this. Howeson (1 wicket) and Botting (2 wickets) bowled well to take us into lunch having dismissed 8 Haileybury batsmen. After lunch Howick and Hammond quickly finished off the Haileybury innings bowling them all out for 78 runs.
The Tonbridge top order batted positively and managed to score the 79 runs required comfortably. Once again Howeson batted very well and was undefeated, this time on 24. The other major contribution came from Makepeace who batted beautifully to score 40 not out. This was a very professional performance from the 1st XI and they should be pleased with this first victory of the 2005 season.
