It was in 2005 that Tonbridge School was approached by Hillview School with the idea for Hildenborough, Slade and St Stephen's primary schools to perform three children's operas composed by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies.
Hundreds of children came together to perform demanding contemporary music with a passion and commitment not always seen on the professional concert platform or opera stage. Certainly, that evening in the theatre was an extraordinarily moving experience and the composer, who gave a short speech before the performance, was clearly moved too.
