Tonbridge Introduces Mandarin

Thursday 15th June 2006

From September 2006, new boys entering Tonbridge at 13 will be able to opt to study Mandarin as one of their language choices. Mandarin has been growing rapidly in popularity as an extracurricular language at the school and so its introduction into the curriculum is a natural development. Mr Justin Wu, our current Chinese private tutor, will therefore be joining the Common Room next term to teach Mandarin. The aim eventually is for boys to be able to take the language through to A Level. At the top end of the school Duncan McCombe (PH 00-05) has a place to read Oriental Studies at Cambridge and Augustus Robinson (FH) has been offered a place to study Chinese at Oxford. Both boys studied Mandarin with Mr Wu at Tonbridge.
