Tuesday 6th March 2007

Monday 5th March saw the opening of a major new mural at Tonbridge School. The work, completed by Yorkshire artist Paul Clifford, was commissioned by the school to mark its victory in the 2006 Bank of England National 'Target 2.0' Interest Rate Challenge, and was funded from the prize. In five large panels, it depicts social and economic developments through the last 250 years. The four team members (Adam Bailey, CH 01-06; Arthur Callaghan, HS 04-06; Henry Elston, SH 01-06; and Angus Moir, JH 01-06) were very impressed with the outcome, commenting on how the work transformed the physical environment in the Social Science Department.
The Head of Social Sciences at Tonbridge, Dr. John Richards, said: "We are delighted with the work that Paul has done. It is a fantastic testament to the achievement of the team, and an excellent example of the benefits of approaching topics at school in a cross-curricular way. We hope that social science and art students of the future will derive real benefit from this new asset."
The school also made a donation of £500 to the Bridge Trust charity from the prize money.
