Sport

Olly Freeman (SH 1998 - 2003) retained his Sussex County Cross Country title on Sunday 6 January, beating GB athlete Gavin Thompson.

Timothy Ng MH2 and Russell Webb FH1 represented the Hong Kong U16 Overseas XV during the holidays.

Shooting

Tim Burgess CH5 has been selected as a member of the Great Britain Cadet Rifle Team (Athelings) for 2008. The team will go for a 4 week tour of Canada in August, taking part in the Canadian Rifle Championships in Ottawa.

Skiing

Nicholas Moynihan JH1 won the Audi Quattro French Regional Championships, and won his selection race to qualify for the French National Championships; and in the British Alpine Racing Ski Club Championships beat all GB thirteen year olds to win silver in the 13 and 14 year old Giant Slaloms (120 competitors), and bronze in the Slalom (130 competitiors). His success means he will compete in the Czech National and International Championships, the GB Schools' Competition in Switzerland (both in January), the Topolino World Championships in Italy in February, and the British Championships in France in April. He is the only non-Alpine based British skier to qualify for the British team competing in Topolino.

Academic

The Tonbridge team of George Corfield CH2 (capt), John Clugston WH2, Jeffrey Poon FH2 and Ben Spells Sc2 came 2nd to St Olave's, Orpington by two points in the Kent round of the Royal Society of Chemistry's "Top of the Bench" competition at the end of last term. They go through to the next round in March.

Tonbridge had 17 entrants in Round 1 of the British Mathematical Olympiad at the end of last term: the top 100 candidates are awarded gold, silver and bronze prizes. Keren Ma PS4 won a bronze prize and was placed 67th = in the country. Peter Aisher FH5 and Adrian Ku JH4 narrowly missed a prize. Round 2 takes place on 31st January.
