A level results

The 2008 Tonbridge Upper Sixth are to be congratulated on achieving their impressive A level results. 30% of the year group were awarded 4 or more A levels at A Grade and four boys hold five grade As.

  • The average UCAS points per Tonbridge candidate stands at 423 (on a scale in which an A grade carries 120, a B carries 100, a C 80, etc... with ASs counting half of these values).
  • 20 candidates from this year group have won places at Oxford or Cambridge.
  • A number of boys also took Advanced Extension Awards (the succcesor to the old Special Paper). Tonbridge is a strong supporter of these awards and boys achieved 14 distinctions and 20 merits across a range of subjects.
  • Paul Merchant (Whitworth House) was in the top 10 in the country for Edexcel Spanish.
  • Peter Aisher (Ferox Hall) was awarded 5 grade As and achieved a bronze medal as a member of the UK Chemistry Olympiad team held in July in Budapest. (Peter was also selected to represent the UK in the physics competition but the dates clashed with the chemistry competition).

AS results.

The 2008 Tonbridge Lower Sixth have achieved the best ever AS results in the school's history. Almost 70% of the grades awarded were As; nationally this figure is 25%.

In common with many schools of our type, because of recent changes to the exam boards' regulations we are no longer formally certificating AS results at this stage. The results quoted in the table are notational ones.

2008 examination statistics

In common with a number of other leading independent schools, Tonbridge is not keen to participate in the various newpapers' leagues tables. Misleading assumptions are made about different types of exams and different subjects. Re-marks can also lead to significant changes in results. We are, of course, committed to a full and clear publication our results and these can be found on the link below:
