Tonbridge Choristers at Windsor

Wednesday 10th June 2009

On Wednesday 13th May the Tonbridge School Chapel Choir sang Evensong at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. Choral Evensong is the mainstay of Cathedral and Collegiate choirs throughout the country and it was a wonderful opportunity for the Chapel Choir to be part of this long tradition. The 50 choir members (30 Tonbridge School boys together with 20 choristers from Hilden Grange and Yardley Court schools) sang to a large congregation in the beautiful surroundings of Windsor Castle, performing music by Radcliffe, Noble and Howells. It was particularly poignant for Jack Aisher (FH) who had been a chorister at St George’s before coming to Tonbridge, and we were assisted in the chapel by Lawrence Williams (FH 2008) who is coming to the end of his Gap Year as Organ Scholar there before going up to Cambridge. The Dean of Windsor remarked, after the service, how impressed he had been by the quality of singing and the sound that the choir made.
