Fifteen soccer playing Tonbridgians travelled to Gothenburg for the Gothia Cup, known as The World Youth Cup. The tournament involves around 5,000 youth teams from over 100 countries around the world and was a wonderful cultural and sporting experience.
Fixtures were played against Spanish, Norwegian, English and Swedish opposition and most notably against Champions League participants AIK Stockholm. The highlight of the week was a 7-0 thrashing of Norwegians on the central Gothenburg show pitch of Heden 1.
The boys improved a huge amount as footballers over the week as well as enjoying themselves on the pitch, in the Gothia Club Nightclub and around the tournament arena. Several will have the chance to return in July 2010 when once again the school will be enthusiastically participating.
