Combined Schools Cricket

In the inaugural Cowdrey Cup Schools XI (selected from boys from Tonbridge, Wellington, Radley, Charterhouse, Harrow and Eton) v Cambridge University, Tonbridge had 5 of the 12 boys selected. Tom Elliott (who captained the Schools XI), Ed Pearce, Charlie Munton, Ton Harvey and Fabian Cowdrey all thoroughly enjoyed playing against Cambridge University at their lovely ground “Fenners”. The Combined Schools team managed to bowl Cambridge University out for 209 in their 50 overs, with Fabian Cowdrey being the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-17 from his 10 overs. Tom Harvey also bowled well taking 2-24. Wellington’s Will Leith took 3-27 and Eton’s Freddie Fox took 2-34. The Combined Schools team managed to pass the University total with time to spare in 42 overs for the loss of five wickets. Tom Elliott (51) and Fabian Cowdrey (48) continued their fine seasons and were instrumental in obtaining the target and supporting Will Vanderspar (Eton) who made 91.

The match was the brain child of Tonbridge Master in Charge, former Cambridge University captain and Zimbabwe test cricketer, Andy Whittall. Next year it is hoped the Combined Schools team will celebrate The Cowdrey Cup with games against Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Scores: Cambridge 209-9 (50 overs). Combined Cowdrey Cup Schools XI 211-5. Combined Schools team win by 5 wickets.
