Outstanding Examination Results

Thursday 18th August 2011

We are delighted with this summer's public examination results. Congratulations to all our students who took examinations at GCSE and A level earlier this summer and achieved excellent results.

GCSEs 2011

Our Year 11 boys achieved a stunning set of GCSE results - the best results ever achieved by a Tonbridge year group by a considerable margin.

Almost two thirds of all grades awarded were A*s. 46 boys were awarded 9 or more A*s grade and 23 boys achieved a clean sweep of A*s, including Clayton Gillespie and Tom Harris who each earned 12 A*s.

93.5% of all grades were either A* or A grades with 85 boys in total gaining exclusively A* and A grades.

A Levels 2011

The school is also celebrating another superb crop of A level exam results in 2011. Three quarters of all grades awarded were A* or A and the median mark for a Tonbridge Sixth Former is once again 4 A grades at A Level.

Boys rose to the challenge of the A* grade: like last year, 39% of all grades awarded to Tonbridge boys were at this highest level. Sixteen boys (10% of the year group) hold at least four of the new A* grades at A level, including Jack Brewster, who holds 5 A* grades and an A grade in Computing taken two years ago when the A* grade did not exist!

Over two thirds of the boys hold 3 more As or better and over one third hold 4 or more A levels at grade A or A*.

All this means that, in a competitive year for university entry, a substantial majority of the remainder of the year group have won places at their first choice university, including a record number to Oxford and Cambridge. For a list of the destinations of the leavers, which will be updated once the new university term is underway, please see the link on the academic home page.

These outstanding results are a testament to the hard work of the boys and to the dedication and guidance of their teachers.
