A level results

The 2007 Upper Sixth are to be congratulated on achieving the second best set of A level results achieved at Tonbridge. After the re-marks process is complete, they may yet over take the previous best which was in 2006. The average UCAS points per candidate stands at 434 (on a scale in which an A grade carries 120, a B carries 100, a C 80, etc. with ASs counting half of these values) or the equivalent of just under two grade As and two Bs. An impressive 31% of the year group hold 4 or more A levels at grade A. Ten of these hold 5 grade As. 24 candidates from this year group have won places at Oxford or Cambridge.

Tonbridge School has been a strong supporter of Advanced Extension Awards - the successor to the old Special Paper. This year Chemistry topped the table with 3 distinctions and 3 merits, closely followed by Latin with 2 distinctions and 4 merits. Economics and Physics each had 1 distinction and 3 merits. French had 1 distinction and 2 merits. English had 2 merits and Spanish 1 distinction.

Justin Chan (Judde House) and Vincent Chan (School House) were in the top 5 in the country for AQA Economics and Physics respectively. Jacob Sewell (Welldon House) and Tom van der Klugt (School House) were in the top 10 in the country for Edexcel French and Theatre Studies. In a remarkable achievement, Peter Aisher (Ferox Hall) achieved a distinction in the Advanced Extension Award physics paper at the end of his Lower Sixth year.

AS results

In common with many schools of our type, because of recent changes to the exam boards' regulations we are no longer formally certificating AS results at this stage. The results quoted in the table are notional ones.

GCSE results

Congratulations to the class of 2007 who have achieved the best set of GCSE results by most measures. In particular the percentage of A* grades has increased significantly to 45%. The average GCSE holding for a 2007 Tonbridgian is the equivalent of one A* and nine As. Fourteen boys hold 10 A*s or better. 57 boys hold portfolios consisting of entirely As and A*s.

Peter Gearing (Parkside) holds 12 A*s. Three others, James Pearce (Ferox Hall), Tom Hendriks (School House), and James Kellett (Oakeshott House), hold 11 A*s. Alex Wilson (Oakeshott House) was in the top 5 in the country for AQA Drama. James Kellett (Oakeshott House) and Keith Yeung (Manor House) were both in the top ten in the country for Edexcel Physics.
