The Tunnel Gallery is attached to the Vere Hodge Art Centre and forms an important part of the Art facilities. It is a ‘white cube’ gallery which is purpose built and used for the display of Art by students, community groups and visiting artists.
We hold up to 7 exhibitions per year and these are curated and installed by the Art staff and always launched with a Private View. Every year group has at least one exhibition annually and this provides fabulous incentive for them to produce work, but also validates the work and places it within an arena shared by visiting artists and other organisations. As a space it is extremely versatile, allowing us to change the floor plan, add partition walls where necessary, and ‘dark spaces’ for projection.
The Tunnel Gallery also provides studio/exhibition space as part of our Michaelmas Term Artist-in-Residence Programme. For the period of one term a visiting artist is given the space as a studio and display area. This allows them to interact with and involve the students in their working practices and provides a snapshot of the discipline that lies behind the creative process.
