Tonbridge regained the team trophy at this year’s Independent Schools Climbing Competition with a dominant display of bouldering, top-roping, and lead climbing against 30 other teams.

The Tonbridge A Team outscored second place Westminster and third place Hurstpierpoint by 728 points to, respectively, 639 and 588 points.

The Tonbridge B Team was strong enough to secure fourth place, ahead of A teams from Sherbourne School, Abingdon School as well as Eton College.

Team B climber, Max (HS), said, “I felt privileged to be part of the event and I am extremely grateful to be selected for the B team. The team was very supportive of me throughout the day, and I am very thankful for their encouragement and guidance. I learned a lot from this competition.”

Tonbridge’s top individual performer was Club Secretary Ralph (OH) with an outstanding score of 185 points, whilst skilled climbers Arthur (PS5), Rory (Sc5), Luca (Sc4), Lawrence (FH3), Dan (PS3), and William (CH5) all achieved 100 points or more.

Master in Charge, Chris Henshall, said, “Tonbridge climbers have never finished lower than third and with winning the team trophy on three previous occasions, Tonbridge is the most successful team in the competition’s history.”
