Science Communication Competition

Science Snippets: 4 minutes to win it!

Are you passionate about Science? Do you want to communicate your passion to the wider community? Then why not enter Tonbridge School’s Science Communication competition - Science Snippets: 4 minutes to win it!

Competitors’ have just 4 minutes to talk about their specialism or interest in science. In the words of Richard Feynman - “If you can’t explain something to a First Year student, then you haven’t really understood”. Competitors need to communicate their chosen topic to a target audience of a Novi (Year 9) student.

The competition is open to science enthusiasts, with categories for:

  • Year 11 and below
  • Years 12 to 13

To enter the competition, please submit a 60 second video of you talking about your specialism or area of interest in science.

Entries open: Monday 5 February 2024 at 8am via the Tonbridge School website

Entries close: Sunday 24 March 2024 at 5pm

All shortlisted entrants will be invited to take part in a live-streamed Grand Finale at Tonbridge School's Barton Science Centre. Shortlisted entrants will be contacted by email on Monday 1 April 2024

Grand Finale: Wednesday 8 May 6.30pm to 9.30pm The Barton Science Centre, Tonbridge School

The judging panel: Guest Head Judge: Dr Giorgio Chianello, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, Director of Science and Engineering Foundation, Outreach coordinator, at Queen Mary University of London. Guest Judge Maria Courel Head of Biology and Leader of Learning of The Judd School, along with Nick Waite Head of Science, at Tonbridge School, Lisa Alford, Science Coordinator at Tonbridge School, and Science Ambassador at Tonbridge School.

The judging panel will be looking for: content, clarity, creativity, captivating.
