Julian Thomas has recorded a full-length CD of organ music on the world-class Marcussen organ in Tonbridge School's Chapel. The album includes well-known pieces by JS Bach, César Franck and Felix Mendelssohn, but also some with closer links to home: two pieces by Rochester-born composer Percy Whitlock and the rousing Marche Heroique by a former Tonbridge music master, Herbert Brewer (1892-96).
Prior to his appointment at Tonbridge School in 2007, Julian Thomas worked at Norwich and Lincoln Cathedral directing choirs and playing the organ for regular services as well as on BBC Radio and TV. He is a prize-winning Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and maintains an active career as an accompanist and recitalist throughout the UK. Recent venues have included the Chapel Royal, Westminster Abbey, Portsmouth and Southwark Cathedrals.
All profits from the sale of this CD, once production costs have been covered, will go to the Tonbridge School Foundation, supporting boys with scholarships and bursaries.
