Tonbridge School has received a prestigious Crystal Award in recognition of its outstanding results in the most recent A-level and Pre-U examinations.
Tonbridge was named as a ‘Top Five Boys’ Boarding School by A-level and Pre-U’ following the results achieved by its boys in 2019.
The award was made by Education Advisers Ltd, the company which runs the ‘Best Schools’ website and produces annual league tables of the UK’s top performing independent schools.
Les Webb, Managing Director for Education Advisers, said: “Tonbridge has been in the Top Five of our league table for many years, and that consistency demonstrates why the school is sought after by many of our clients. Tonbridge has long been one of our best heritage schools, with a large campus and magnificent facilities. We highly recommend them.”
In last year’s A-levels, 90 per cent of grades achieved by Tonbridge boys were A*, A, B or their Pre-U equivalent. Nearly two thirds of all results were graded A*/A, and 15 of the school’s Upper Sixth Formers achieved a remarkable ‘clean sweep’ of A* or equivalent grades. The ‘average’ outcome for a Tonbridge leaver in 2019 was AAA.
The Upper Sixth cohort at Tonbridge take up places each year at many of the UK’s leading universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, London School of Economics, University College London, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Durham, Bath, Bristol, Manchester, York, Warwick, Leeds and Exeter. The large majority of the Upper Sixth achieve their first-choice destination.
A proportion of Tonbridge leavers also choose to study abroad and progress to leading universities around the world, particularly in the USA.
The school’s Headmaster, James Priory, said: “I am delighted for Tonbridge to be honoured with this Crystal Award. My thanks and congratulations go to our students for working so hard and achieving such outstanding results.”
