The Tunnel

The exhibition area where most exhibitions are held is 'The Tunnel' attached to the Vere Hodge Art Centre. It is a fabulous area which has been developed since 1998 by the department into a place where exhibitions are held up to seven times a term.

Boys work is shown here as well as the work of members of staff and invited guests. Every single teacher in the Art Department regularly shows their work in the Tunnel and elsewhere. It has shown the work of the Design Technology and Electronics Departments and has hosted exhibitors from jewellers to installation artists. As a space it is extremely versatile but takes a great deal of hard work to maintain which is why we a lucky to have the help of part-timer Brian Stenning - a local picture framer and retired electrical engineer. He helps mount and dismount displays. Without his help the variety and brilliance of the displays would not be possible.

As for the boys, they love showing their work in the Tunnel. We have Private Views and just like in Cork Street the boys are treated as first rate artists for the duration of the show - which they sometimes are.

The parents flock to the Private Views and they provide a very practical focus for the boys' ambitions. They know there is a deadline and that the show must go on! They rise to the challenge.
