Novi secures a spot on the Kent team after impressive victory
Bertie (WH1) produced an outstanding performance at the Kent Schools Championships, winning the Under-15 Javelin title by an impressive margin of 18 metres and setting a personal best of 48.41m. His victory secured his place on the Kent team for the National Schools Championships in July.
Reflecting on his achievement, Bertie said, “I was really pleased to achieve a PB, especially at the Kent championships. Since the Kent championships, I have competed at the South Eastern Schools Inter County Cunliffe Cup competition and I now have a new personal best of 50.14 metres, coming second place by 11cm. So I am now working hard towards my target of throwing over 55 metres.”
Bertie has developed his javelin skills through training both at School and with Tonbridge Athletics Club over the past few years. He is quick to acknowledge the support he has received along the way. “My coach, Dominik, at Tonbridge Athletics Club has been a huge help, and Lucinda White has been a great support to me over the last few years. Mr Ridd at Tonbridge School has also helped me a lot with improving my trajectory.”
In the lead-up to the National Schools Championships, Bertie will be focusing on further developing his strength and refining his technique to hopefully surpass his goal of 55 metres.
Looking ahead, Bertie said, “It means a lot to be able to represent my school and my county at the National Schools Championships. It’s exciting to compete at the highest level in my age group, and I’m also looking forward to supporting the rest of the Kent team.”
