Admissions Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance

We strongly believe that diversity opens minds.

Our aim is to widen access and opportunity to academically able boys, who, regardless of background and financial means would not only benefit but positively thrive from a Tonbridge education and add significant value to the School.

More than 70 Tonbridge boys currently benefit from significant fee reductions through our Junior Foundation Award, and the ambition is to grow that number further.

Junior Foundation Award

Financial assistance is available following means-testing of up to 100% of fees with a package for additional support where necessary. Successful applicants are awarded a Foundation Award.

Each year up to 10 Junior Foundation Awards are made in March of Year 6, with financial help available in some cases to fund boys into Year 7 and 8 at Prep School.

Financial assistance is currently only available to boys residing in the UK.

Families may not apply for a fee-paying place if they have been unsuccessful in securing a Junior Foundation Award unless in exceptional circumstances and with the agreement of the Finance Director.

Financial

The level of financial assistance offered to a boy in receipt of the Foundation Award is means-tested. It should be noted that the level of support received depends not only on family income but also assets, necessary expenses, and liabilities. Eligibility is assessed by the Director of Finance following a review of a confidential financial circumstances form at the beginning of the Junior Foundation Award process in October of Year 6, with a more comprehensive external assessment required at the shortlist stage the following February.

Character and Potential

Boys will need to be at or near the top of their class in Year 6, exceeding or reaching greater depth in most subjects. A good indicator of academic suitability for Tonbridge is high predicted scores for 11+ (Kent Test) and/or ISEB Pre Test/CAT4 exams. Candidates will also need to be eager to learn, be keen to participate and actively engage in our busy school life as well as being able to interact positively with both adults and peers.

The Foundation Award is available to both Boarders and Day boys. For further information please look at our booklet which will answer many questions.

How to apply

A designated Foundation Awards Manager is available to advise as needed.
