Super Sevens win the shield at Shiplake

Tonbridge’s first team lifted silverware after the first Rugby Sevens tournament of the season.

Taking place at Shiplake College last Sunday (2 February), the 1st VII claimed their victory despite an early setback, in which they narrowly lost 10-7 to Wellington College in the group stages.

Following this Tonbridge remained undefeated in the rest of the tournament, conceding only one try throughout the remainder of the day.

The shield final saw a fantastic display with Tonbridge beating rivals Bedford School 38-0. “It was a fantastic day’s rugby for the black and whites, with some outstanding individual and team performances,” said Rhys Crane, Master in Charge of Rugby.

He added: “It was pleasing to see such a high level of rugby being played so early in the season. This team will definitely be one to watch when the Sevens season properly gets going after half term.”
