Bluetooth design skills put to the test

Boys from the Lower Sixth have been designing their own portable Bluetooth speakers as part of a competition run by consumer electronics giant Bang & Olufsen.

Having been set a brief by the client, the boys, who are all studying Design, Technology & Engineering, presented their creations in sketch form, on presentation boards and finally as prototype models.

Judges from Bang & Olufsen had the job of picking the best three entries, and said they were impressed by the students’ creativity, hard work and professional approach to the project. Tom Martin, Managing Director of B&O PLAY UK, added that the boys “could put some of our concept guys out of a job!”

The winners, who all received high-end audio equipment as prizes, were Jasper Driessen (WH) in first place, James Adams (SC) in second and Fergus O’Brien (OH) in third.

Jon Woodrow, the School’s Design Technology Teacher, said: “We are incredibly grateful to B&O PLAY for their help and advice with this joint venture. There are huge benefits for the boys in working with real commercial clients and taking on board the company ethos, brand and technical aspects.” He also confirmed that there are plans to run the competition again next year.

The boys’ work will be on display at the School and at the Sevenoaks B&O store.
