Living Our House system Oakeshott

Oakeshott

Oakeshott House is the newest of the 12 Houses at Tonbridge, having opened in 2000.

Essential information

Housemaster: Graham Barnes

Email: graham.barnes@tonbridge-school.org

Phone: 01732 500034

Address: 18 Dry Hill Road, Tonbridge, TN9 1LX

House Colours: Scarlet and gold

Oakeshott benefits from being the largest of the five day Houses, offering ample space for the boys to spread out in.

Located in the middle of Dry Hill Road, Oakeshott is close to both the main School and the Tonbridge School Centre (the sports and leisure centre). Despite being a ‘young’ House, Oakeshott has quickly built up a strong academic and sporting reputation.

Graham Barnes

About the Housemaster

Graham Barnes read Physics at Nottingham University and arrived at Tonbridge in 2006, having previously taught at Shrewsbury, Sedbergh and The King’s School, Chester. Before taking over in Oakeshott, he was Master in Charge of Rugby for nine years, coaching the 2nd XV for a number of years, as well as being a coach of hockey, cricket and football. He has a wealth of pastoral experience, having been a Senior Student Housemaster and Assistant Housemaster of Manor House, and he has also enjoyed spells as Head of Physics and Master in Charge of the Tonbridge Seminar programme of external speakers. Away from school Graham’s additional interests are mountain related – either climbing up them or skiing down them – and playing the piano. He is married to Jo, a Consultancy Manager for The National Trust, and they have two teenage daughters, Eleanor and Abigail.
