Smythe is named after Sir Thomas Smythe, grandson of the School’s founder, Sir Andrew Judde.

The origins of the Smythe House can be traced to the 1930s, while Smythe finally settled in its current location, within the heart of the School, in 1944.

Today, the members of Smythe are accommodated in 18 rooms and benefit from their own dining room within the House.

Greg Fisher

About the Housemaster

Greg Fisher was educated at Chatham House Grammar School, King’s College London and the Institute of Education, University of London. He taught at St Olave’s Grammar School (where he was in charge of overseas expeditions), University College School, Hampstead (Head of Outdoor Education) and Bradford Grammar School (Head of Chemistry for seven years), before coming to Tonbridge to teach Chemistry and become Duke of Edinburgh manager in 2012. Greg was a tutor in Manor House and Welldon Houses before taking up the post of Housemaster.

Throughout his career Greg has played an active role in coaching rugby, football and cricket, is a keen hill walker and mountain leader, and has travelled to Sri Lanka on three occasions to support the work of Child Action Lanka. As well as numerous outdoor education and walking trips both within Britain and on the continent, he has also run school expeditions to the Sierra Nevada, Morocco, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Madagascar.

His children have recently finished university and work in project management and child therapy.
