Challenging conditions in the RS Feva National Championships

During the half-term break, the sailing team packed up their boats and embarked on the long journey north to Scotland for the RS Feva National Championships, held on the northern bank of the River Forth, beneath the iconic Forth Bridges.

The opening ceremony featured a parade led by traditional bagpipes, welcoming over 200 sailors from across the country to the competition. A sense of cautious anticipation filled the air at the initial briefing, as the forecast promised strong winds and challenging tidal conditions in the exposed waters.

On the first day of racing, many competitors found the conditions difficult, grappling with how best to navigate a demanding course. Racing on the subsequent days was cancelled due to winds reaching 40mph, offering the sailors a well-earned rest at their accommodation nestled in the picturesque Scottish hills. These quieter days also allowed for afternoon excursions to enjoy the local sights.

The final day of racing proved a great success, with several races completed in near-perfect conditions. Our sailors applied what they had learnt, with some achieving top 10 positions within their respective fleets. Well done to Emmanuel (HS2) and John (FH2), who performed impressively in the Gold Fleet and earned their sailing ties.
