School House wins Junior Debating Final

Two Tonbridge School teams went head to head in the Junior Debate Competition final on Wednesday 20 June.
Boys from School House and Manor House came up with plenty of thoughtful arguments and well-reasoned ideas as they tackled the question of whether, as a superhero, they would use their powers solely in the service of the democratic state.
School House (opposition) emerged as the victors, claiming an impressive trophy, with Manor House (proposition) finishing as runners-up.
The event took place in the Smythe Library gardens on a beautiful sunny evening.
Organiser Sarah Pinto del Rio, who was also one of the judges, said: “The boys in both teams did themselves proud and were truly impressive. It’s is fantastic to see such a high level of debating at the school, which made for a truly memorable evening.”
The winning team featured Paddy Davies-Jones (Sc2), Patrick Thomson (Sc2) and Jamie Lambert (Sc1).
Manor House’s team was made up of Hector Day-Lunn (MH2), Kalai Rasalingam (MH2) and Jonas Freeman (MH1).
The Chair was Isaac Willats (WW1). The other judges were Al McGilchrist and John Bleakley.
