Golf Club gathers trophies and plaudits

Tonbridge School’s golfers are celebrating a magnificent year in which they have remained unbeaten in all competitions.
The Golf Club’s 3-0 victory over Eton at Sunningdale last week ensured their proud record continued. The 1st VI, pictured, have a record of played ten, won ten, while the newly inaugurated 2nd VI have won four of their six matches, drawing the other two.
Honours won include the Smarden Bell tournament, the Smarden Bell Individual, the OT ‘Generation Game’ and the Schools’ Invitational Best Pair. The club has also won through to the summer term’s semi-final of the HMC Foursomes, in which it will face Winchester.
In addition, the school’s golfers took part in a week-long tour to Southport over half term, playing at three Open Championship venues at Birkdale, Lytham and Hoylake, under the watchful eye of PGA Professional coach Tim Cowley from Royal Ashdown.
James Nicholls, Master in Charge of Golf, said: “This is probably the best crop of young golfing talent we have seen at the school in 15 years. They are playing exceptionally well and it is exciting to see the boys achieving their potential.”
