Post GCSE Honorary Academic Scholarships

Tonbridge boys who achieved outstanding results in their GCSE exams this summer have been rewarded with Post GCSE Honorary Academic Scholarships.

All 46 boys receiving a scholarship have achieved nine or more A*s or equivalent at GCSE.

The majority of boys were presented with their scholarship certificates by the Headmaster, James Priory, in a ceremony on 16 November in the school’s Skinners’ Library (pictured right).

Due to a school trip taking place on that day, other boys attended a second ceremony a week later, on 23 November (pictured below).

The scholarships were awarded to recognise the achievement of boys who did not previously hold awards but who have enjoyed significant academic success across the curriculum at GCSE. All will also be awarded cheques for £100 at a whole school assembly later this term.

The Headmaster congratulated the boys on their results and said he looked forward to them becoming ‘academic leaders’ at the school. “You deserve to be very proud of your achievements thus far, but my encouragement is that you also keep learning, keep asking questions and keep being intellectually curious,” he added. “I look forward to the role you will all play in the future academic life of the school.”

Tonbridge School had an exceptional set of GCSE grades this summer, with boys achieving 91 per cent A* / A grades or equivalent, the school’s second highest performance on record. For the fourth year in succession, the average award for a Tonbridge boy was 7 A*s and 3 As.
