Tonbridge storms to victory in Kent Schools’ Trophy

The school’s under 15s rugby team retained the Kent Schools’ Trophy for another year after beating Dartford Grammar School in a highly competitive final.

In stormy, wet and windy conditions, Tonbridge won 22-5 in a match played at Gravesend RFC on Wednesday 28 November.

Rhys Crane, Director of the school’s Rugby Academy, said: “It was an excellent game, in challenging conditions, against an opposition who had some exceptional talent on display. Tonbridge took an early lead and then absorbed the comeback attempts from Dartford to go on and secure the victory with a few more well-constructed tries.”

Rob Stephen, u15A coach, added: “Our forwards, as for much of the season, were brilliant in laying a platform for our backs to play off. Two first half tries from Jack Jones (PS2) gave us a 12-0 half-time lead, and scores from Joe Baldwin (HS2) and Ben Moore (WH2) secured victory for us in the second half. It was no mean feat to score four tries out wide in such miserable conditions!”

Tonbridge overcame Ravens Wood School in the first round of the Kent Schools’ Trophy, Langley Park School for Boys in the quarter-finals and Eltham College in the semi-finals.
