Smythe House sets the pace in The CRAS

Hundreds of boys took part in the annual Tonbridge School cross-country race, The CRAS, last Thursday (14 February).
The boys from Smythe House took the day’s top honours, achieving overall victory just ahead of Oakeshott in second place. Hill Side took third place.
Smythe also won the House Points Cup, ahead of Hill Side in second place.
Hill Side managed to achieve victory, however, in the Senior Team competition, with Oakeshott winning the Junior Team event. Smythe completed its third victory in this year’s event by winning the Novi Team competition.
The Senior Individual champion was Finn Harvey (HS4), the Junior winner was Joe Baldwin (HS2) and the Novi winner was George Thomas (CH1).
While the origins of the name are obscure, the race has been known as The CRAS since about 1910. The event was originally run over roads and field paths but now takes place in school grounds. It is a house competition with three age categories: Novi (first year), Juniors (years two and three) and Seniors (Sixth Form).
