Cadets impress on CCF Inspection Day

Sailing, power boating and life raft drills were among the highlights of Tonbridge School’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Inspection Day on Wednesday 6 March.
Two hundred Tonbridge cadets took part in the annual event, which this year had a naval focus and was attended by parents, the public and school staff.
The parade included the school’s Royal Navy, Army and RAF sections, with Rear Admiral Will Warrender CBE (Flag Officer Sea Training), pictured, serving as Inspecting Officer for the event. He particularly admired the drill display carried out by the Contingent’s Honour Guard.
At the start of the day, cadets took part in sailing and power boat activities at Bough Beech. Following the afternoon parade and inspection there were other fun and exhilarating activities, including log-carrying races between sections and the opportunity to test out a flight simulator.
Those attending included representatives from HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Royal Navy’s £3.1billion aircraft carrier; HMS President; the Royal Navy Reserves; RAF College Cranwell; the Royal Marines; the University Royal Naval Units (URNU); and RAF Air Cadets.
Among guests attending was Captain Shane Craig, Naval Attache for the Royal Australian Navy, and members of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, including two representatives of the iconic Chelsea Pensioners.
Squadron Leader Jonathan Harber, Contingent Commander for the school’s CCF, said: “Once again our cadets, including the Honour Guard, put on a first class and energetic display for our visitors. I am very proud of them for the impressive contribution they make to the life of the school.
“I am also extremely grateful to Rear Admiral Will Warrender for being our Inspecting Officer. I would like to extend my warm appreciation to all our guests, and to Tonbridge CCF officers, for making Inspection Day such a memorable occasion.”
The parade was commanded by Cadet WO1 Max Stockdale (Sc5).
A photographic exhibition showcasing the history of cadets at Tonbridge was available to view throughout the day.
