Tonbridge boy Louis makes England hockey debut

Tonbridge School’s Louis Tipper made his England hockey debut in a hard-fought, three Test series against Holland over the Easter weekend.
Louis (WH5), who plays for Sevenoaks Hockey Club, represented England under-18s in the drawn series, which took place in the Netherlands. Louis was made vice-captain and played in an attacking midfield role.
The England team won the third and final match 3-2 to square the series. The opening match ended in a 2-2 drawn with Holland, traditionally one of Europe’s best sides, edging the second match 3-2.
Louis, Deputy Head of School, has been a member of two successful Tonbridge hockey first XIs and his debut marked the first time a Tonbridge boy has been selected for the England hockey under-18s.
Sevenoaks Hockey Club Tweeted its congratulations to Louis for making the step up to the national team, adding that he was “a top player with a very bright future”.
His achievements are even more impressive as he was out of the game for three months up until February, suffering with injury.
Adrian Schweitzer, the school’s Master in Charge of Hockey, said: “Louis is a hugely talented player and athlete who fully deserves this national recognition. He has shown great determination to make it into the England team and it is a wonderful achievement to be featuring alongside some of the best players in the country while he is still at school.”
