Tonbridge cricketers are South East winners in T20

Tonbridge School’s 1st XI cricketers have made it to the regional final of the HMC National Schools Twenty20 competition.
Tonbridge beat King’s Rochester, Hurstpierpoint College and The Skinners’ School in the first round of the South East group, while the second pool of matches saw a powerful batting display in the match against Bede’s.
Rising star Sam Hadfield (FH2) scored a quickfire 60 from just 30 balls, helping Tonbridge to a total of 175 from 20 overs, which proved too much for Bede’s to chase down.
The final against St John’s School, Leatherhead, was a contrasting affair, with Tonbridge posting what they considered to be a below par 115 from their allocated 20 overs. However, thanks to some highly efficient bowling, led by Archie Ramanathan (PH2), this total proved to be just enough and St John’s fell 8 runs short.
As the South East winner, Tonbridge will now face Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood, in the regional final. The winners of this will progress to the T20 national finals day, alongside three other schools across the country.
