Tonbridge boys win gold at Athletics Championships

Tonbridge boys were among the medal winners after putting in superb performances at the Kent County Athletics Championships, which took place in Ashford, Kent on Saturday 11 May.

Zac Beasty (WH2), pictured, won a gold medal in the high jump competition for the second year running. He also won silver in the Under-17 Men 400m, where he recorded a personal best of 54.08 seconds. Zac’s high jump win qualifies him to represent Kent in the Southern Inter-Counties competition in July.

Zachary Nwogwugwu (HS2) was also a gold medal winner, coming first in the Under-17 Men 100m. Zachary recorded his personal best time of 10.99 seconds – therefore breaking the all-important 11-second barrier.

Charlie Crick (SH5) won bronze in the Under-20 Men 400m, with a time of 51.48 seconds.

All are members of Tonbridge Athletic Club.

Chris Morgan, the school’s Director of Sport, said: “These are fantastic results by three dedicated students, and just rewards for all the hard work they put in year round. To combine their pursuit of excellence in athletics alongside their studies and other interests takes single-mindedness and huge commitment. All three of these exceptional young men have that in abundance.”
