Around The World In 80 Days arrives at EM Forster Theatre

More than 50 characters embark on a madcap journey by train, boat, sledge and even elephant in Tonbridge School’s latest production, Around The World In 80 Days.

Taking place at the school’s EM Forster Theatre between Tuesday 26 and Friday 29 November, the show tells the story of the wealthy gentleman Phileas Fogg, who wagers his fortune that he can circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days. Phileas and his French valet Passepartout leave behind foggy Victorian London for the exotic sub-continent in a race against time.

The cast also features pupils from three girls’ schools, Tonbridge Grammar School, Weald of Kent and Hillview School. The lead role is played by Hector Day-Lunn (MH4), with Zac Sampson-Regal (FH4) as Passepartout.

Lindsay McDonald, Artistic & Choreographic Director, said: “It’s a large-scale, multi-media production with lots of fast-paced action and over 50 in the cast. There are some very famous toe-tapping pieces of music and some wonderful cameo roles in this tongue-in-cheek version of the famous story.”

He added: “It was an easy choice to make as a school play, with its well-known status, large number of characters and gently amusing tone. It has been such a treat to bring the story of Phileas Fogg and his hapless valet to the stage with such a keen, committed and talented cast and an excellent crew.”

The story is based on the novel by Jules Verne, with the stage adaptation by Laura Eason.

Tickets are priced at £6 and £2.
