Oscar-winning OT Vikram launches film competition

Oscar-winning documentary-maker and Old Tonbridgian Vikram Jayanti has launched an exciting competition for aspiring film-makers at Tonbridge School.

Throughout 2019, the film producer and director has been holding classes in the English Department, where he has been teaching boys about filmic story telling.

Based on the high quality of the short videos made during the sessions, by both Sixth Formers and First Years, a competition for boys has been launched this term.

Entrants are invited to submit original films running for no longer than three minutes in one of three categories: Drama, Documentary and Comedy. The films can be shot on any device but must be in a landscape format.

There will be prizes for the best film in each category. Each prize will be a DJI Osmo Pocket camera, with a further ‘Grand Prize’ potentially up for grabs.

Winners and runners-up will be announced, and their films screened, at a special event at the beginning of the Summer Term.

Vikram Jayanti (Sc 68-72), pictured below, has made a number of well-known documentary films. Two of his works have received Academy Awards for Best Full-Feature Documentary: the 1997 blockbuster When We Were Kings, and Born Into Brothels (2005).
