U15As give ‘fantastic team performance’ in winning the Kent Cup

Tonbridge’s Under 15As rugby side have won the Kent Cup Final, following victory against Dartford Grammar School on Wednesday 24 November.

In a match played under lights at Gravesend Rugby Club, Tonbridge started with confidence and withstood some early physical attacks, showing patience in keeping the ball before Luke Clayman (Sc2) dived over for the first try.

The team grew in confidence as the half went on, leading to two fantastic individual scores from Henry Hargreaves (SH2) and Clayman, as well as a brilliant team try finished off by Max Eichmüller de Souza (PH2).

With the score 22-0 at half-time, Tonbridge weathered another early storm from Dartford before scoring two more tries, one of which saw them go the length of the field in just a few phases before the move was completed by Subomi Kolaojo (PS2).

In the last play of the game, attacking from their own 22 metre line, some sublime teamwork led to Kolaojo running in under the posts to end the game in style and record an emphatic 39-0 win.

Coach Rob Stephen said: “For a year group with a huge amount of potential and individual talent, this was a fantastic team performance. Any of the Tonbridge team could have been nominated for the man of the match award, an honour which went to Henry Hargreaves.”

The team are now looking forward to their last two fixtures of the season versus Radley, this Saturday, and Wellington on 4 December.
