‘Brilliant results’: Tonbridge boys’ GCSEs among best-ever for School

Tonbridge’s GCSE and IGSCE results for 2022 are outstanding and among the best-ever for the School. In results made public today (Thursday 25 August), over 57 per cent of grades are at 9, the highest possible grade, and almost 85 per cent are at 9 and 8 (with both grades the equivalent of A*).

In further statistics:
* 97 per cent of all grades are at 9-7 (equivalent to A*/A);

* 99.3 per cent of all grades are at 9-6 (equivalent to A*-B);

* A total of 61 boys (41 per cent of the Third Year cohort) achieved straight 9-8 grades (equivalent to straight A*s);

* A total of 120 boys (80 per cent of the Third Year cohort) achieved straight 9-7 grades (equivalent to straight A*/As).

Pupils across the UK sat GCSE and IGCSE public examinations this summer for the first time since 2019.

James Priory, Tonbridge’s Headmaster, congratulated the Third Year cohort. “Boys can be proud of these brilliant results, which are a tribute to the hard work and determination they have shown throughout their GCSE studies,” he said.

“Today’s results also reflect the inspiration and support provided by our staff, who have delivered high-quality teaching and learning through a very challenging period. Our pupils and staff have much to celebrate today.”

Mr Priory looked forward to welcoming the boys back next week for the beginning of term and for their first taste of Sixth Form studies. “With such excellent results, our boys can move forward with confidence to the next stage of their education, when they start a new and exciting chapter by entering the Sixth Form here at Tonbridge,” he said.

“Our Sixth Form Curriculum, launched two years ago, has proved highly popular with students, delivering a superb learning experience during their A-level studies as well as the best possible preparation for university and future careers.

“Today’s GCSE results show the great potential these boys have. Now, as Sixth Formers, we look forward to them taking on leadership responsibilities and playing a key role in the academic, co-curricular and community life of the School.”
