Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022)
The entire Tonbridge School community feels great sadness and profound loss on hearing of the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
Tonbridge’s Headmaster, James Priory, says: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Queen’s family. She has been a dedicated and inspirational Monarch throughout many extraordinary years of service.
“Hers was a reign that saw the world change dramatically, but she remained a constant presence in the lives of the people of the UK and Commonwealth. Her life of service, and of dedication to our nation, was an inspiration to so many across the world.”
There will be prayers for Her Majesty The Queen, and a reflection upon her long reign, during the School’s Chapel Assembly on Friday (9 September).
At midday on Friday, the bells at Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral and Windsor Castle will toll in tribute to the Queen. In line with this, the School’s bells will toll for one minute at midday.
There will be further reflection during School Evensong on Sunday (11 September) at 7.15pm. All parents are welcome to attend.
There will also be a special Chapel service, led by the Senior Chaplain, for all staff who wish to pay their respects to Her Majesty and to give their prayers and support for the King. This will take place on Monday (12 September) at 2pm.
